Use of Proven Technology to Improve Landfill Design, Construction and P&L Operating Margins
Information
Regions or states that have a rock geologic formation and lack soils for proper landfill development, construction and operation bring great challenges to the industry. This presentation will portray the implementation of a Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) system for all landfills in Missouri by executing a technical equivalency demonstration and working with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources state agency through the process and incorporating the design into existing operating landfills. The value to the industry and landfill operators for gaining approval for GCL alternate liners includes:
- Reducing capital investment for cell construction cost by $48,000/acre
- Reducing soil deficit for landfill operations, therefore eliminating the need to truck in clay soils for construction, cover and final capping at a cost of $15/cubic yard
- Improving the P&L for landfill operators
- Optimizing the use of available soils
The session will review the benefits for using this proven liner technology and implementing it statewide to improve construction practices, reduce operating costs and deliver the same environmental protection when developing landfills.
